“Have
A
Heart” Day February 13 at Veterans Memorial Hospital
Posted 25 January
2010
Saturday, afternoon,
February 13, Veterans Memorial Hospital will offer a free “Have a Heart
Day” CPR class for adults age 50 and over in celebration of National
Heart Month. This free CPR course for all adults age 50 and over
will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Large Conference Room on the
lower level of Veterans Memorial Hospital.
As adults pass age 50, their chance for experiencing a heart attack
increases. The quicker CPR can be administered, the better chance the
person has for recovery. This free training teaches individuals age 50
and over the basics of adult CPR. There will be no test or
certification given, just CPR training and demonstrations.
Some five million individuals each year receive CPR training by
instructors certified by the American Heart Association or the American
Red Cross. The timely application of CPR has been credited with saving
thousands of lives each year in the United States.
To prevent a heart attack from occurring, the American Heart
Association encourages Americans to control high blood pressure, stop
smoking, exercise regularly and follow an eating plan low in saturated
fats and cholesterol.
Veterans Memorial Hospital offers this free CPR class to individuals
age 50 and over each February during National Heart Month.
For any additional information and to pre-register, please call
Machelle Bulman, RN, Education Coordinator at Veterans Memorial
Hospital at (563) 568-3411, prior to February 11. |
