Posted 25 June 2009
Applington-Parkersburg football coach Ed Thomas was shot and killed yesterday as he supervised students in the AP weight room.  Mark Becker, a former student and football player has been charged with murder.

The incident occured around 8:00 AM on Wednesday June 24, 2009.  According to reports, Coach T was supervising students in the weight room at Applington Parkersburg High School when Becker entered, waved a hand gun, then fired multiple shots at Thomas.

Thomas was airlifted to a Waterloo hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Over the weekend, Becker had been apprehended by authorities, after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase.  Becker was held at an area hospital.  In spite of a request by law enforcement for notification, Becker was released without the hospital notifying law enforcment.
